Thoughts on Summer

“Summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people. For those few months, you’re not required to be who everyone thinks you are, and that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don’t have the rest of the year. You can be grateful and easy, with no eyes on you, and no past. Summer just opens the door and lets you out.”

Poetry Night

For  the past  few years,  Crones  Counsel  has held  a poetry/storyteller  night. This  is  meant to be  different  from the morning storytelling sessions.

If you are  a poet, it is an opportunity to read some of your work. If you have  written memoir,  you may choose  to share  a  story.  This is  the time  where you can have paper to read  from and have  prepared  some of  your work to share, as  opposed to  the  spontaneous  storytelling  which  occurs  in the morning.  If  you are  a poetry lover, but not a writer, this would be a time  you could  share a poem or a story that  has  touched your life that you would  like to share   with  everyone.  It  need not  be your original  words, however it  is  important  to designate the name of the writer or author of the work.

All of  you  poets and storytellers, new, old, just beginning or lovers of  the written word, this is a venue to experiment with reading work aloud.  You can prepare  and/or practice speaking  it before coming to Counsel.

If you have written chapbooks, or published in any way, and wish to share any of these,  do contact Marta in the Artisan’s Bazaar, to see  about  renting space for your books.

There  will be sign up sheets for those  who  would  like to read and share. Feel free to contact me ahead of time if you know now that you would like to present  a poem or body of  work.  Just send me the title and a few sentences about yourself.

Looking forward to hearing all of your written and heartfelt words.
